writing role play

The crew of the U.S.S. Heimdal regularly engage in a writing roleplay exercise, where they place themselves inside the story. The narrative is created on an ongoing basis, however there are regular gatherings of participants to lightly sketch out future plot-lines.

The timeframe for the Heimdal written roleplay within the Star Trek canon universe is after the episode Darmok (TNG) and before the Dominion War. This is a standalone creative exercise amongst Chapter members and does not impact realtime activities or reporting.

Bud entered the mess hall and quickly surveyed his surroundings. Even though he kept telling himself that he was in a safe place, Bud still preferred to eat alone and with his back against the wall. But sitting alone at a table seemed to be an invitation to his crewmates to approach and offer their company. Bud did not want to antagonize anyone and often agreed to let others join him, despite his preferences. Bud then spied a Vulcan lieutenant named T-Ploth sitting at a table by herself. Just at that moment a crewmember approached her and said something. T-Ploth looked up from her PADD and shook her head. The crewmember then walked away. An idea came to Bud in a flash.

The wolf stalks. I am in its belly. But I am its eye. I have been stretched so far…so far… to touch that me…that me I can see in that other ship. The ship of friends, not foes. What can I see there? I am supposed to expand the hole. Can I resist? THE PAIN. Yes…Look for the traitor.

Tell what I see? Can I see enough…to dream?

As he had for the past several weeks, Lt. Bud Walker walked into the galley, retrieved his meal from the replicator and took his seat at a table for two. Within a few minutes, Lt. T’Ploth entered and did the same, sitting opposite from Bud. The rest of the crew had become accustomed to seeing the pair eating together, and since they always sat at a table for two, no one was ever tempted to ask to join them. During this time, Bud and T’Ploth had exchanged no more than a handful of words as a simple head nod had sufficed for both of them.

Council Enforcement Officer Jodi adjusted her sash and straightened her insignia. This was her first assignment out of the eyesight of the Emperor and the Inner Circle. She had earned their trust. It had only taken five years as the civilian tactical advisor to the Emperor on Bajoran Issues. And she was always on a short leash. Jodi understood. Bajor was a major force in the Alliance; the Empire could not be too careful allowing her, a Bajoran, in.

Walker made his way through the corridors of the ship, heading back to his quarters. He was scheduled to be on the bridge within the hour, and after his disastrous lunch with T’Ploth, he needed to change uniform shirts. As he rounded a bend, Walker suddenly had the eerie feeling that he was being followed. He glanced quickly over his shoulder but only saw the normal coming and going of other crew members behind him. Walker shrugged and dismissed the feeling as residual paranoia on his part.

The turbolift doors hissed open and Lt. Commander Whately slowly walked onto the bridge. She nodded to Security Officer Hatter as she relieved Lt. Parrish and took her seat at the Communications console. Perhaps today she will talk to Hatter about her concerns. She just needed to check one more thing.

Walker completed his shift on the bridge and left, giving only a perfunctory farewell to Zak. Bud could not completely shed his unease around the El-Aurian helmsmen, given that race’s history in the Mirror universe. Of course, he is only half El-Aurian, so I do not know how extensive Zak’s abilities are, Bud thought to himself.

The door to Security swooshed open and there was Jonathan, sitting at his desk reading some sort of report.

"Hey, Jonathan, I don't want to disturb you, but I have a situation I think you should know about."

"What do you want, Kathy?"  demanded Jonathon gruffly.  Not the response Kathy expected, but maybe Jonathan was having a rough day.
